Below you will find answers to many common questions about One Day for UWL 2023.
What is One Day for UWL?
One Day for UWL is an annual university-wide fundraising event that encourages everyone in the UWL community to give to the UWL people, places and programs that are meaningful to them. For 24 hours, students, alumni, parents, faculty, staff and friends come together as a community and show their support.
When is One Day for UWL?
One Day for UWL is the third Tuesday in October! This year that lands on October 17, 2023 running from 9:00am until 8:59am on Wednesday, October 18.
Why should I participate in One Day for UWL?
Philanthropy has become an increasingly critical part of the university’s support. It funds many scholarships for students who otherwise would not be able to attend college and supports the university’s top-notch faculty, state-of-the-art facilities, and hands-on learning opportunities for students. Giving back is one of the greatest things we can do for our university and for future UWL students. Whether you can give $5 or $500, you are part of the UWL family, and you can help make a difference.
How do matches and challenges work?
Challenges and matches are time-sensitive, regulated incentives to make your donations go further. Each challenge and match is explained on the One Day for UWL page. For full rules and explanations, see this page.
Where do challenge funds come from?
Challenge funds were generously donated by UWL alumni, friends and members of the UWL Alumni and Foundation Board of Directors.
How can I contribute to the challenge pool?

What does my gift support?
It’s up to you! You may designate any area of the university that is important to you. Whether your heart is with your college or school or you have an interest in a specific research initiative or student program at UWL, you are free to choose what your gift supports. When you make your gift, you can select from a list of colleges, schools and units.
Can I give to more than one area?
Yes, you can make multiple gifts when you check out. Make sure to select "Add a Donation" on the gift menu to select the other areas you would like to support. Your card will only be charged once for the sum of your donations.
How do I donate?
Make a gift online during the campaign. When the campaign is live, you can click the "Give Now" button at the top of the website. If you've reached this page before or after the campaign, please click here to make your donation.
Do you accept matching gifts from my employer?
Absolutely! Check with your employer to verify if they match gifts.
Is there a minimum / maximum donation amount.
Yes. There is a $5 minimum and a $99,000 maximum donation amount on the online giving page. If you wish to donate $99,000 or more, please contact annual giving at 608-785-6803.
Who should I contact if I have a question about my gift?

The fund I want to support is not listed on the Giving Day website. Can I give to an unlisted fund/project?
If the area you would like to give to is not listed on the Giving Day website, please type in and select "Other" from the first and second drop downs. Then, please type in the area you'd like to support in the "Please designate gift below."
When will my credit card be charged?
Your card will be charged immediately.
Is my contribution tax-deductible?
Yes, contributions to UWL support the university and are eligible for income tax charitable deduction as allowed by law. You will receive an email confirmation that may serve as your receipt for tax purposes.
Will I receive a receipt for my contribution?
Yes, UWL will send you a gift receipt via email for tax purposes.
