Below you will find answers to many common questions about One Day for UWL 2024.
What is One Day for UWL?
One Day for UWL is our annual university-wide giving day. For 24 hours, students, alumni, parents, faculty, staff, and friends of UWL come together to make donations to areas of campus that are meaningful to them and also celebrate the impact that philanthropy has on our UWL community.
When is One Day for UWL?
One Day for UWL is the third Tuesday in October! This year that lands on 9 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 15 to 9 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2024. We have 24 hours to make a difference!
Why should I participate in One Day for UWL?
Philanthropy has become an increasingly critical part of the university’s support. It funds many scholarships for students who otherwise would not be able to attend college and supports the university’s top-notch faculty, state-of-the-art facilities, and hands-on learning opportunities for students. Giving back is one of the greatest things we can do for our university and for future UWL students. Whether you can give $5 or $500, you are part of the UWL family, and you can help make a difference.
What does my gift support?
It’s up to you! You may designate any area of the university that is important to you. Whether your heart is with your college or school or you have an interest in a specific research initiative or student program at UWL, you are free to choose what your gift supports. When you make your gift, you can select from a list of colleges, schools, and units.
How do I donate on One Day for UWL?
To make a gift to One Day for UWL, you can click the "Give Now" button at the top of the website.
Is there a minimum / maximum donation amount?
Yes. There is a $5 minimum and a $99,000 maximum donation amount on the online giving page. If you wish to donate $99,000 or more, please contact the UWL Alumni & Friends Foundation at (877)895-3863.
How do matches and challenges work?
Challenges and matches are time-sensitive, regulated incentives to make your donations go further. A match is when a gift is met dollar-for-dollar to a certain area of campus. A challenge is when a gift is unlocked/earned after reaching certain goals. Each challenge and match is explained in the "Challenges" tab found at the top of this webpage.
Where do matches, challenges, and sponsorships funds come from?
Matches, challenges, and sponsorship funds come from generous donors. If you would like to set-up a match for One Day for UWL 2025, please contact the UWL Alumni & Friends Foundation at foundation@uwlax.edu.
Can I give to more than one area?
Yes, you can make multiple gifts when you check out. Make sure to select "Add a Donation" on the gift menu to select the other areas you would like to support. Your card will only be charged once for the sum of your donations.
Do you accept matching gifts from my employer?
Absolutely! After making your gift on the One Day website, reach out to your employer with your giving receipt as proof and ask them to match your gift. If you have questions about this process, please reach out to us at foundation@uwlax.edu.
When will my credit card be charged?
Your card will be charged immediately.
Is my contribution tax-deductible?
Yes, contributions to UWL support the university and are eligible for income tax charitable deduction as allowed by law. You will receive an email confirmation that may serve as your receipt for tax purposes.
Will I receive a receipt for my contribution?
Yes, UWL will send you a gift receipt via email for tax purposes.
Made a gift to the wrong department or program?
If you accidentally make a gift to the wrong department or program, please let us know as soon as possible at foundation@uwlax.edu. We will make sure your gift gets to the correct location.
